I've noticed that stores who do this kind of specials will have them at regular times.
For example, there is a special like that at Tops as well as at Dollar General.
So the trick is to figure out which one has the best deal, and then keep checking their specials, and only buy when the items are on sale. Never again buy the items when they're not on sale, because the sale will return.

Our local grocery store often offers buy 2 get 3 free. Even if the original item costs a little more than it would at other stores, it's still a great deal.

Here is the dilemma: You will end up with 5 of the same. When it comes to things like laundry soap, that's fine because it keeps forever. But how about other things?

We recently bought buy 2 get 3 free one pound ice cream. That was a month ago and we only ate one so far. Four left in the freezer though we desperately need the freezer space.

I'm thinking before getting into deals like that, we need to think rational and make sure it is what we need in the end.
