Last spring I started my lettuce in sixpacks indoors for the first time.
Best thing I ever did, and I'll never sow lettuce from seed right outdoors again.
I started the seeds about 2 weeks before the last frost. The seeds germinated quicker than usual. When I was sowing them directly outdoors, the seeds would take at least two weeks to germinate.
When sowing indoors in sixpacks, they would take two weeks at the most.
Once they germinate in the sixpacks, they are so easy to take care of. Just water them regularly.
I planted the lettuce outdoors when it was about an inch tall. I had thrown several seeds in each of the 6 compartments, so it was a bit "crowded', but I didn't try to separate them, I just planted the contents of each compartment of the sixpack.
Once planted outdoors the lettuce grew quick and we had a continued harvest from it.
