I see them do it at walmart, they spray cold water on the produce. I hate when they do that when I'm standing right there, lol.
But I'm sure it's an automated system and I'm just in the wrong spot at the wrong time.
Something else they do is use wax. Have you ever noticed that veggies from the store seem to stay 'fresh' longer than the ones you get from your garden?
Beware!! Wax is used to make them stay in shape and 'look' fresh.
Sometimes, you can feel the wax on the vegetables, especially on cucumbers and peppers.
They do it with tomatoes too.
