Heating bill

I've had this conversation many times over the years... it depends on whom you ask.

In winter when you have to heat the house, and you are away from home 9 hours a day to go to work, which one is cheaper.. turn the heat completely off or turn it lower.

Some people are convinced that when you turn it off completely, the furniture gets cold and it takes a lot of energy (=$$) to get everything up to temperature again, so you're better off just turning it down instead of off.

I don't believe that. It might take more oil (or electric, depending on what you use) to warm things up again at night, but do you really pay more for that one boost, than when the heat kicks on over and over again while you're gone?

Testing this old technique again Amused.  I turn the heat down, when I leave for work.  Unless, it is bitter cold outside, then I have to drip all faucets, open kitchen cabinet doors, nobody wants frozen pipes.  I have had several nights and days in minus degree temps so far.  So, I check the hourly rate for the next day to make sure.
