Have you ever heard the expression of being penny wise and dollar foolish?
Can you think of any examples?

One that comes to mind is when you drive 25 miles one way to go to a store and buy a chicken that's on sale for a $2 discount.
You will have spent more on gasoline than the $2 you saved by getting the chicken special.

Anyway, I ran into a situation today.

I bought 5 pounds of frozen chicken patties at Bargain Grocery for $7.99
Not sure who is familiar with Bargain Grocery, it is a store that has food at incredibly discounts but you always have to check the expiration dates on everything.
I did check the expiration dates on everything EXCEPT on the frozen chicken patties. When I came home I portioned them out in smaller bags and just when I was putting the large bag in the trash I noticed the expiration date... November 2024. Ouch!

If I had a guarantee that the chicken had always been frozen during that year, I would eat it without hesitation, but there is no guarantee. Plus there was no name on the bag, just a big plastic bag with an expiration date.
So we can eat the chicken, risk getting very sick and spending a lot of money on urgent care or worse, the ER, or I can discard the 5 pounds of chicken patties, lick my wounds and cut my losses.

Gosh I seriously beat myself up over this. GGRR!

I would not take the chance.  Can you give it to the wild animals near you?  They will get a treat and you will know that you gave a treat to them.

I ended up giving it to my friend's dogs and they loved it :)

We found another discount store named Ollie.
Do you have those in your state?

No Ollie in my state.  I only eat kosher chicken, but I always check the expiration date.  I can't help myself.  Kosher chicken is between 5.49 and 11 dollars a pound,  depending on where I shop.  I shop for my chicken at Costco the cheaper of the two.  enough chicken for the week.

Oh we don't have Costco here. I hear a lot about that store. They even have it in China, but not here.

Yep! We have something similar where you pay for membership and buy things in bulk, but it's a different company.
