Use a spreadsheet or the likes.
When you track your expenses, you're be surprised what you find out.
You will know exactly where your money goes and you'll know how you can save, or what you cut down on.
When I started tracking my expenses, I found out that I was spending far more on groceries than I thought I did, so that's the area I started to save in and my expenses went down with $200 a month.

I have been tracking my expenses for a couple of years.  It's definitely useful.
I seem to spend much more on gasoline that I'd guess if I didn't track my expenses.

At the start of 2024 I started a spreadsheet to track my expenses. I think that this will help to spend less. We are only 3 days into the new year so I don't have much to go by yet. I paid my electric bill and gave a friend $80 got New Year.
One of my resolutions for 2024 is to spend less and save more.

How is it going?

I spent too much money on groceries in January but I also bought many groceries for a friend who has some big medical bills to pay off.
Gasoline wasn't that much in January but it's wintertime and I don't drive as much in wintertime.
I saved a little by taking a bunch of empties back to the store.

I need to start one and have to research all the different categories.  I seem to have so many!  Plus everything is going up.  From taxes to car insurance, to eggs, chicken, all food etc....

I think that eggs will become unaffordable because of the birdflu. They have been killing tens of thousands of chickens. Eventually that's going to catch up and eggs will be really expensive.

I agree with you, so I have started to use quoina, seeds, tinned fish.  It is much cheaper and saves on my grocery bill.
