I feel very lonely.  I have for a very long time.  I feel isolated at home and at work.  Will be more so when my friends all retire at the end of April from work.  I have a lot to do at home,  but feel a little overwhelmed there.  I have been divorced for decades.   No children.  Worked nights for many years.  My closest friend lives in Connecticut.  I'm planning on retiring at the end of July and  I really don't think I can afford it but my body is in agony from the heavy work I have done over the years.  I wonder if anyone else feels this way?

So sorry you feel lonely. Would it help to get a pet like a dog or a cat?

Oh I missed this post. So sorry you are feeling lonely :(
Are there any activities in your area where you can meet and interact with other people, like hiking clubs?
Or is there any hobby you can start, like writing, hiking, etc... It always helps to have something you can be passionate about, any kind of hobby.

I can when I stop working.  Otherwise, it is almost an hour to drive in unless I leave an hour earlier, and 1 1/2 hours drive home.

The traffic is unbelievable in Boston.  Coming and going.  I never want to drive in there again.  I work 7am to 3:30 pm

Wow! Sounds like NYC.
Is there any public transportation?

There is, but I prefer to take my own car.  Even with 2 hours of traffic every day.

Back then, public transportation would have been expensive to pay for and the parking at the train stop would be even more expensive.
